Circular Economy Initiative

Join Heart Comonos for our Circular Economy Initiative workshops and events on Mending, Weaving, Appliance Repair, Trash-into-Treasure Art, and Cothing/Toy Swap! These workshops are part of our mission to promote environmental wellness through sustainable practices and skill development.

Our goal for these workshops is to extend the usability of household items to minimize waste sent to landfills, and to reduce our dependence on mass-produced retailers. With help from our expert “fixers,” we will do our best to repair items, and to teach community members the skills required to do it for themselves.

What is a Circular Economy?

The circular economy is a system where materials never become waste and nature is regenerated.

In a circular economy, products and materials are kept in circulation through processes like maintenance, reuse, refurbishment, remanufacture, recycling, and composting. The circular economy tackles climate change and other global challenges, like biodiversity loss, waste, and pollution, by decoupling economic activity from the consumption of finite resources.

We are deeply thankful to the Region of Peel for supporting this project through Peel Region’s Circular Economy Initiative Fund 2026. We are also thankful to The City of Mississauga for helping us to run these events with knowledgeable volunteers.
