Bike Day Event in Cooksville - Mississauga 100 bicycles were given away, 81 were repaired, 405 people attended, and 45 community members volunteered!

By: Luisa Tellez

On June 21st, 2025, the Cooksville community embraced Heart Comonos’ Bike Day initiative as an amazing opportunity to fix and give-away bikes for free! The bicycles were donated by Cooksville community members and, without our collective efforts, they may otherwise have been destined for landfills.

This was the third annual Bike Give-away and Fix-up Event that Heart Comonos and the Cooksville community volunteers have pulled-off together, and it was a huge success! The event had a really incredible impact. It was very well attended with over 400 people participating, and again, 100 bicycles given away to families, kids, teenagers, and adults, and 81 repaired! This really shows what can be achieved when we work together for the wellbeing of our environment and our community!

The day started at 10:00 a.m. with the support of many volunteers, community members, partners, and sponsors. Volunteers were busy handing out drinks and snacks at the refreshment tent, and helping run the spin-to-win tent where attendees could win swag for their new bikes like bells, locks, and stickers. Even Councillor Dipika Damerla and MP Peter Fonseca managed to attend the event to share encouraging sentiments to Cooksville residents.

Activities for children and parents were everywhere! There was chalk to encourage some side-walk masterpieces, and lots of kids enjoyed painting their helmet at the decorating station. The Mississauga Fire Department joined in on the fun and gave personal tours to the kids who had a real life fire truck to play in!

So many residents brought their bicycles to be repaired by our super skilled technicians, and we shared so many magical moments when children, youth, and adults got their new bikes. All the smiling faces beaming with joy and gratitude made all the hard work worthwhile, and it is so inspiring to see the community working together to make a real difference.

Overall, the 2025 Heart Comonos Bike Event was a fun and successful experience, and could not have happened without the support of the City of Mississauga, our amazing technicians, and the many community members who volunteered their time and donated their bikes.
